Van Hollen Applauds Maryland Gun Safety Law Ranking from the Brady Campaign

Statement

Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen released the following statement after Maryland was ranked as seventh in the nation for best gun violence prevention laws by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, based largely on the Firearm Safety Act of 2013:

"I'm proud that Maryland is leading in promoting responsible gun ownership. I salute Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh and the members of the Maryland General Assembly who passed the Firearm Safety Act of 2013. It is a reasonable, common sense measure that is saving lives.

"With tragedy after tragedy exposing the horrific toll gun violence is taking on our nation's communities, we cannot give up the fight to pass common sense laws that promote gun safety and keep guns out of the hands of criminals. Congress should follow the lead of Maryland and others who are fighting hard on this issue and succeeding."
