Van Hollen Hails Senate Passage of the Stephen Beck, Jr. ABLE Act

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, the lead House Democratic sponsor of the Stephen Beck, Jr. Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act, released the following statement on Senate passage of the legislation that will level the playing field for families with children with disabilities through equal access to tax-free savings accounts to provide for their children's future:

"Today, the Stephen Beck, Jr. ABLE Act cleared its final hurdle in Congress and will head to the President's desk to be signed into law, a remarkable accomplishment for families across the country who made their voices heard in Washington. I'm proud to have been part of the bipartisan effort get the Stephen Beck, Jr. ABLE Act across the finish line to further empower disabled Americans to reach their fullest potential."

Senators Bob Casey (D-PA) and Richard Burr (R-NC) sponsored the Stephen Beck, Jr. ABLE Act in the Senate, and other original cosponsors in the House were Representatives Ander Crenshaw (R-FL), Pete Sessions (R-TX), and Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA). The bill passed the House on December 3, 2014.
