McCaul, Ratcliffe to Introduce Pro-Privacy, Pro-Security Cybersecurity Bill

Press Release

Today, U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, and U.S. Rep. John Ratcliffe, R-Texas, chairman of the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection and Security Technologies, will introduce the National Cybersecurity Protection Advancement (NCPA) Act to improve cybersecurity by encouraging voluntary information-sharing about cyber threats between and amongst the private sector and government.

Chairman McCaul and Subcommittee Chairman Ratcliffe said: "Cyber criminals, hacktivists, and nation-states will never stop targeting Americans' private information and American companies' and government networks to damage, disturb and steal intellectual property and U.S. Government secrets. One of the greatest cyber threats to the homeland is the weakness of our power grids, and energy and water systems. A successful cyber attack on our critical infrastructure could cripple our economy. Congress must take action to defend America's vital digital networks and help American businesses better protect themselves."

The NCPA Act bolsters our nation's cybersecurity by providing the liability protections industry needs and the privacy protections Americans demand and deserve. This pro-security, pro-privacy bill is the result of close collaboration with industry and privacy stakeholders and other committees in the House.
