Hoyer: Republicans Should Reconsider Opposition to Export-Import Bank

Statement

Date: April 28, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on House Republican leaders' comments about letting the U.S. Export-Import Bank expire:

"I am deeply disappointed by comments from Republican House leaders in support of cutting off export financing from the Export-Import Bank. The Ex-Im Bank supports thousands of American jobs and helps small and medium-sized businesses across the country access foreign markets and compete on a level playing field. A broad, bipartisan coalition of Members supports extending the Bank's charter, and if Republican leaders were to allow the House to work its will, a long-term reauthorization would pass. I hope they will reconsider their opposition and instead side with the American businesses and workers who are asking that Congress take action before the Bank's charter authority ends in June."
