Ayotte to Chair Critical Senate Armed Services Readiness Subcommittee

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) announced today that she will serve as the Chair of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness and Management Support. As the senior Republican on the subcommittee for the past four years, Ayotte has worked in a bipartisan manner to strengthen America's national security.

"As chair of this important subcommittee, I will fight to ensure that our troops, their families, and the DoD civilians who support them have the training and resources they need," said Senator Ayotte. "I will also focus on cutting wasteful Pentagon spending and advocating for Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and Pease Air National Guard Base-which are critical national security assets."

Among other responsibilities, the Readiness and Management Support Subcommittee oversees military readiness including training, logistics, and maintenance; military construction; contracting and acquisition policy; business and financial management; base realignment and closure; defense industrial and technology base policies; and industrial operations, including depots, shipyards, arsenals, and ammunition plants.

Ayotte has used her position as the Ranking Member on the Readiness Subcommittee to oppose the Administration's request for another Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) round in 2017.

Last Congress, Senator Ayotte worked closely on the Readiness Subcommittee with Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH). Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) will serve as the Ranking Member of the subcommittee this congress.
