U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) released the following statement on the death of American Kayla Mueller:

"I am deeply saddened by the news that American Kayla Mueller was killed at the hands of ISIS. I offer my heartfelt sympathies and condolences to her family, friends and loved ones. Kayla will be remembered for the humanitarian aid work that she fearlessly undertook in this dangerous part of the world.

"Yet again, this despicable act highlights the ongoing threat that ISIS represents to all Americans, and to people around the world of all faiths and nationalities that stand against ISIS's depraved and oppressive ideology. This horrific act must not go unanswered, and we must act to stop this terrorist group now."
