Ayotte Supports Proposals to Fund DHS, Defund President's Executive Action on Immigration

Continuing her efforts to ensure funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte today announced she will support a new proposal that would fund DHS and allow a separate vote on defunding the president's 2014 executive action on immigration. Senator Ayotte is a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and the Armed Services Committee.

"I have strongly opposed the president's sweeping 2014 executive action on immigration. I am encouraged that a recent court ruling has found the president's executive action on immigration exceeded his legal authority and has blocked its implementation. In light of the court injunction - which prevents the administration from carrying out the president's executive action - I will support legislation that would fully fund homeland security operations for the rest of the fiscal year. I will also vote in favor of a separate measure that would defund the president's 2014 executive action, and I support further challenging his illegal actions through the court system."

During the past month, Senator Ayotte has voted four times to advance legislation that would fund DHS and reverse the president's executive actions on immigration, which Democrats have continuously blocked from being debated and amended.
