U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released this statement following the U.S. Army's announcement of charges against Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl:

"The charges against Sergeant Bergdahl are serious, and I trust that our military justice system will process this case in an appropriate and fair manner. I remain deeply concerned by the Obama administration's dangerous decision to release the Taliban 5 without proper congressional notification and without sufficient assurances that they will not return to the fight against America and our allies, which I believe endangers U.S. national security interests."
