Blumenthal, Senate Colleagues Call on Federal Regulators to Block Massive Comcast-Time Warner Cable Deal

Ahead of a Wednesday meeting between federal regulators and Comcast--which is currently trying to acquire Time Warner Cable (TWC)--U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) joined a coalition of Senators in pressing the agencies that are reviewing the deal to act in the best interest of American consumers by blocking it.

In a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Department of Justice (DOJ), Senator Blumenthal --along with Senators Al Franken (D-Minn.), Bernard Sanders (I-Vt.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.)--said that the deal would give Comcast too much market power and lead to fewer choices, higher prices, and even worse service for consumers in Minnesota and across the country. The Senators also said that, should the deal go through, it would stymie other American businesses from innovating and competing on a global scale.
