Scott Air Force Base Plays Part in Ebola Fight

Patients with highly-contagious diseases can now be transported safely to hospitals across the globe, thanks to a system developed at Scott Air Force Base in the Metro-East.

Illinois Congressmen Mike Bost and Rodney Davis attended the unveiling.

Davis says the transportation isolation system will be used by the U.S. Department of Defense in treating the Ebola epidemic in West Africa, and protects caregivers who come in contact with the disease.

"Being able to safely transport members of our military, health workers, and others if they are infected, is critical to ensuring these volunteers who are risking their lives to help others can receive treatment," Davis says.

"This is another needed tool in a world where Ebola, SARS and other potentially highly contagious diseases are threatening the health and safety of our citizens and their caregivers," Bost says.
