Fischer Takes Gavel of Commerce Subcommittee, Joins Whip Team

Last night, Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee Chairman John Thune (R-SD) announced that Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE) will chair the Subcommittee on Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety, and Security for the 114th Congress. Fischer released the following statement regarding her new position this morning:

"I'm honored to chair this important subcommittee and thankful to Chairman Thune for his leadership. Transportation issues are incredibly important for Nebraska and our nation. I look forward to working with my colleagues in this new role as we continue to exercise aggressive oversight, improve the regulatory climate, and focus our infrastructure priorities."

This chairmanship will enable Fischer to continue her leadership on transportation issues, which have been one of her top priorities dating back to her chairmanship of the Nebraska Legislature's Transportation and Telecommunication Committee.

In addition, Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX) announced Senator Fischer's appointment to the Senate's Republican Whip Team for the 114th Congress -- an important leadership position she held last Congress and will continue in the new majority.
