This morning, U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) convened the first hearing of the Subcommittee on Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety, and Security for the 114th Congress. The hearing, entitled "Improving the Performance of our Transportation Networks: Stakeholder Perspectives," featured testimony from representatives of three Nebraska companies. Senator Fischer released the following statement after concluding this morning's hearing:
"Today's hearing was an exciting opportunity to foster new discussions regarding the future of our nation's transportation policy across various networks. We need bipartisan, commonsense solutions to address our country's transportations challenges while ensuring our economy continues to thrive. I look forward to continuing these discussions and working with the private sector to engage in new policies that will grow our economy and improve safety for commuters in Nebraska and across the country."
This morning's hearing of the Subcommittee on Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety, and Security heard testimony from three Nebraska companies including Jim Mullen of Werner Enterprises; Lance Fritz of Union Pacific Railroad; and Douglas Means of Cabela's. The hearing featured testimony on a range of issues including: the importance of a reliable and efficient surface transportation network; challenges relating to efficiency, safety, and overall performance; and the role of federal agencies.
