Fischer Introduces Legislation to Commemorate 100th Anniversary of Boys Town

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) introduced S. 301 - The Boys Town Centennial Commemorative Coin Act this morning. Senator Fischer was an original co-sponsor of this bill last year. The legislation would authorize the Secretary of the Treasury to mint $5 gold coins, $1 silver coins and half-dollar clad coins in honor of Boys Town's 100th anniversary. Senator Fischer released the following statement regarding the legislation this afternoon:

"The Boys Town Centennial Commemorative Coin Act is a wonderful way to pay tribute to an extraordinary organization. For nearly 100 years, Boys Town has been improving the lives of young people and families in vulnerable situations. Nebraska is proud to be home to this life-changing nonprofit and I'm pleased to reintroduce legislation that will commemorate this important milestone for Boys Town and to highlight the important work that continues to this day."

This morning, Senator Fischer introduced legislation to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Boys Town. The bill would authorize the Treasury Department to mint commemorative coins that would be sold in 2017 and 2018 in limited quantities. Associated costs will be covered by the sale of the coins and there will be no cost to the taxpayer or the Treasury Department.
