Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) - Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities - released the following statement after joining the committee to advance Dr. Ash Carter's nomination for Secretary of Defense:

"Dr. Carter will bring impressive experience to the position of Secretary of Defense, including many years at the Pentagon. I was impressed with Dr. Carter's testimony and his willingness to discuss the many important issues critical to our national security.

"In addition to his testimony, Dr. Carter took the time to meet with me and address several of my own priorities, including the modernization of our nuclear arsenal, eliminating waste at the Pentagon, and addressing threats to our cybersecurity. I look forward to working with Dr. Carter in his new role as we continue to protect our national security and provide peace through strength abroad."
