Chairman Fischer Calls for Reforming FMCSA

Statement

Date: March 4, 2015
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Transportation

This morning, U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) chaired a hearing of the Subcommittee on Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety, and Security focused on reforming the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Senator Fischer released the following statement after the conclusion of this morning's hearing:

"The FMCSA has disregarded the views of Congress, stakeholders and several independent agencies with its current agenda-driven approach to regulating our nation's truckers. It's time for reform and today's hearing was an important first step. Moving forward, I intend to author legislation to ensure a more inclusive FMCSA process -- one that encourages collaboration and trust while creating more effective regulations that will maintain the safety of our nation's roads."
