Hoeven Announces More than $3.7 Million FEMA Grant for North Dakota

Senator John Hoeven today announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded $3,734,500 to North Dakota through the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) State Homeland Security Grant Program (SHSGP).

The SHSGP is part of the DHS Homeland Security Grant Program, which is the primary funding source for building and sustaining the state's capabilities to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from catastrophic events. Hoeven serves on the DHS Appropriations Subcommittee, which oversees funding for the Department of Homeland Security.

"Being prepared for a disaster is more than half the battle," Hoeven said. "This FEMA funding will help us to put in place the tools our state will need to be ready for future disasters."

Hoeven also announced today that FEMA has made $168 million available to state and local entities for Fiscal Year 2015 in focused Preparedness Grants, for which North Dakota entities may be eligible to apply. These Preparedness Grants are also issued by FEMA to help eligible entities build and sustain preparedness capabilities and are awarded on a competitive basis.
