Hoeven Outlines Bills to Improve Vets Access to Extended Care, Health Care Services

Speaking at a gathering of the Minot Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs, Senator John Hoeven today outlined legislation he is working to pass that will help veterans in North Dakota and across the nation. The first bill provides veterans with more options for long-term care (LTC) services in their home communities, and the second gives veterans greater access to local services when they live far from a Veterans Affairs Administration (VA) hospital.

Hoeven was in Minot to honor the service of four North Dakota veterans at a military medal presentation ceremony in Minot. Hoeven's office worked to secure the medals earned by World War II veteran John Rodman, Korean War veteran Douglas Beck, World War II veteran Arthur Heisler and World War II veteran Trygve Knutson.

"Men like those we are honoring today in Minot, service members who have served our country devotedly, should have access to the best care possible as near to home as possible," Hoeven said. "That means not only providing them quality health care and extended services when they need them, but also providing those services in a way that works for them and their families. These bills are two of the most tangible and meaningful ways we can say thank you for their sacrifices on our behalf."
