Senator Lankford Announces First Hearing as Chairman

The Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs and Federal Management, under the chairmanship of Senator James Lankford (R-OK), will hold a hearing on Thursday, March 19, at 10:00am to examine the federal regulatory process.

The hearing is entitled, "Examining Federal Rulemaking Challenges and Areas of Improvement Within the Existing Regulatory Process" and will take place in Senate Dirksen 342. The hearing will examine current rulemaking processes, and how these processes affect the quality, structure, efficiency, and accountability of agency rulemaking. Lankford was named the chairman of the Subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs and Federal Management by Committee Chairman Ron Johnson (R-WI) during a markup of the Committee's rules on January 23.

"The federal rulemaking process has become very complicated and unaccountable," said Chairman Lankford. "How regulations are created are just as important as the final product. This hearing will provide a substantive dialogue about the state of the federal regulatory process and whether changes are necessary to improve it."
