Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) released the following statement after news that U.S. Army Specialist John M. Dawson of Whitinsville, Massachusetts died in Afghanistan, in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel.

"I was deeply saddened to hear that Specialist John M. Dawson was killed in action in Afghanistan. The residents of Whitinsville and all of Massachusetts will remember his service to the United States Army, and as a nation, we will always remember his ultimate sacrifice. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and loved ones."
