Today, Congressman Kevin Cramer made the following comments after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H. Con. Res. 27 the 2016 Budget Resolution.

"Today's budget is not perfect but it is a good first step on returning our federal government to fiscal sanity. Our children face a 18 trillion dollar debt. This is not the legacy we should leave to future generations. Balancing the federal budget will take shared sacrifice and tough decisions. However, this budget does not make sudden or dramatic reductions. Instead, it increases spending at a more manageable rate. At the same time, it funds priorities including the defense of our nation, which is the number one responsibility of the federal government. The House also voted on several alternative budgets offered by Democrats, each containing trillions in tax increases and additional spending without ever balancing the budget. Critics will say we are doing too much while others will say we are not doing enough to reduce federal spending, however, I believe this budget is the right approach to bringing our debt under control," said Cramer.

The Federal Government will spend $48.6 trillion over the next 10 years. Under this proposal, it will spend roughly $43.2 trillion. On the current path, spending will rise by an annual average of 5.1 percent. Under this budget, it will rise by only 3.3 percent.
