Senate Passes Booker, Cochran, Gillibrand Resolution Commemorating Black History Month

Statement

A resolution introduced by U.S. Sens. Cory Booker, D-N.J., Thad Cochran, R-Miss., and Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y commemorating Black History Month has passed the US Senate. S. Res 84 recognizes the indelible contributions made by African Americans to our country's political, economic, social and cultural history in the face of systematic racial injustice.

"I am proud that the United States Senate has passed this resolution in recognition of the men and women whose courage and sacrifice advanced our national progress." Senator Booker said. "As we celebrate Black History Month, we must not only use this as a time of reflection but of action. In order to honor the legacies of those who struggled to advance the causes of liberty, justice and equality, we must steel ourselves to act boldly on the pressing civil rights issue of our own time."
