Menendez, Booker, Norcross Announce over $600,000 in STEM Scholarships for Rowan University

U.S. Sens. Bob Menendez and Cory Booker (both D-N.J.), and Rep. Donald Norcross (N.J.-01) today announced that the National Science Foundation has awarded $612,823 in federal funding to Rowan University to provide scholarships for academically talented students in financial need who are pursing bachelor's degrees in engineering. The project is a multidisciplinary collaboration of the five engineering departments of the College of Engineering at Rowan.

"STEM educated professionals are indispensable to our nation's economic wellbeing in the 21st century," said Sen. Menendez. "A prospective college student with interest in sciences and innovation deserves an opportunity to pursue a career in a specialized industry in high demand, irrelevant of their income level. That is why I am glad that this federal funding will allow Rowan University to provide a world-class education to our nation's future STEM leaders right here in New Jersey."

"The STEM economy is so critically important to the power, strength, and future of America," said Sen. Booker. "That's why we need to do everything we can to encourage our young people to study those areas and then pursue careers in them. This grant from the National Science Foundation will help do just that."

"Investing in our students and making college more affordable for our best and brightest will spur new and exciting breakthroughs in energy, biomedicine, technology and other fields that are continuing to drive our economy right here in South Jersey," said Congressman Norcross. "Not only will this grant help 30 students obtain a top-rate education at Rowan University, but it will provide the foundation for these students to join our local workforce ensure our region's success in today's competitive global economy."
