A strong transportation system is critical to our national security and our economic development. Our highway system was first developed to move our military men and equipment efficiently. Our transportation system as a whole quickly became a key tool for growing economic development. Manufacturers and farmers must have strong roads, waterways, railways, and air transportation available to move their products at home and worldwide. While the federal government plays a role in our transportation systems, I believe the states know how best to spend transportation dollars.
