Statement of the Hon. Rosa L. DeLauro DoD Recommended Closure of Groton Sub Base

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn.-3) today released the following statement on the Defense Department's recommendations for base realignment and closures (BRAC), which included the closure of the Groton sub base.

"Closing this base would be a blow to our national security and the state's economy. I am outraged that the Defense Department has ignored what Connecticut residents have known for generations - the Groton submarine base is a facility that is vital to our national defense and the nearby Electric Boat shipyard makes it vital to our manufacturing industry.

"I am particularly concerned about the BRAC process going forward at a time when the Defense Department continues to underestimate our current and future military needs. Over the next three months, I intend to work with the delegation and the Governor to keep Groton off the final list of base closures."
