Congresswoman Rosa. L. DeLauro (Conn.-3), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, today released the following statement on the president's Fiscal Year 2005 supplemental appropriations bill that passed the U.S. House.
"I supported the supplemental conference report because our country has a moral obligation to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, to the victims of the tsunami, and to the peacekeeping efforts underway in the Sudan. This legislation will deliver much needed equipment to our troops, finally raise the death benefit for families of military members killed in action, and provide humanitarian assistance to regions of the world desperate for food. I am particularly pleased that the bill includes funding for five new Black Hawk helicopters to be built in Stratford, Connecticut, which will aid our local economy and provide our military with the best helicopters in the world."
