Pelosi Leads Bipartisan Congressional Delegation to Asia

Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi is leading a bipartisan Congressional delegation trip to Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Korea and Japan. The delegation arrives in Cambodia on Saturday, beginning the five-nation trip focused on critical issues underpinning U.S. relations with the region, including security cooperation, human rights, and trade. The delegation stopped in Guam en route to Asia to refuel and receive a briefing with U.S. Air Force 36th Wing Mission Commander Andrew Toth.

"Our delegation is bipartisan and while it has a wealth of seniority in terms of committee assignments, it also benefits from a Member of the Freshman Class," said Leader Pelosi. "We arrive at an important moment for the United States' relationship with these countries, and find ourselves presented with fresh opportunities and familiar challenges in the region."

"Our delegation will discuss ways we can strengthen security cooperation; advance human rights with an emphasis on women, workers and religious minorities; and increase fair trade," Leader Pelosi said. "Members are particularly interested in gaining further understanding of how the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement that is currently being negotiated will impact the region's markets and economies. I am proud to be joined by this outstanding group of colleagues, and look forward to an informative and productive trip."
