McCaul to Examine President's Cybersecurity Information Sharing Proposal

On February 25th, the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security will hold a hearing to examine President Obama's cybersecurity legislative proposal on information sharing.

· Dr. Phyllis Schneck, Deputy Under Secretary for Cybersecurity and Communications, National Protection and Programs Directorate, U.S. Department of Homeland Security

Chairman Michael McCaul, R-Texas, on the hearing: "The recent cyber attack on Anthem was yet another stark reminder of the persistent threats we face. Now, more than ever, Congress must take aggressive action to remove legal barriers to improve private entities' ability to share information to combat these attacks.

"Last year, I shepherded bipartisan cybersecurity legislation through Congress and into law, including a bill to authorize DHS's National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center (NCCIC). My committee is now taking the next steps and working on new legislation, which will include liability protections for cyber threat information sharing. While I am glad that the president finally came to the table on this issue and delivered a proposal to Congress last month, many questions remain. This hearing will examine the details of his plan and help to inform our legislative process, as we work with our partners in the House and Senate on this issue."
