McCaul Announces Hearing on Foreign Fighters & Homegrown Terror

Statement

Date: Feb. 5, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

BREAK IN TRANSCRIPT

Chairman Michael McCaul, R-Texas, on the hearing: "Islamist terror groups like ISIS and AQAP are surging, and every day we witness their brutality and senseless violence. The threat they pose to the homeland has reached its highest level since 9/11. Foreign fighters continue to flow into Syria and Iraq for training, and security gaps in Europe are making it easier for them to return to the West undetected once they leave. We've already seen returning fighters conduct attacks in places like Paris and Belgium, and I want to make sure we are doing everything possible to keep that terror from reaching our shores.

"This hearing will help my committee continue its investigation into this issue and into the threat from homegrown violent extremism. I look forward to hearing from the State Department, FBI, NCTC and DHS on current efforts to address these twin threats and what more this administration can do."
