Today, U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement on the president's budget request for Fiscal Year 2016, which seeks billions of additional dollars for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) without identifying ways to pay for it:

Chairman McCaul: "I am deeply disappointed the president has decided to play numbers games rather than propose a realistic budget for DHS, particularly at a time when we face urgent terrorist threats to the U.S. Homeland. We've seen homegrown terrorism spread from the streets of Paris to our own communities. Yet, the president failed again to prioritize funding for programs to counter violent Islamist extremism. How many wake-up calls does the president need?

"The American people deserve better than "smoke and mirrors' and budget gimmicks. They deserve a real plan for defending our country against emerging threats."
