Senate Committee Advances Cornyn Bill to Protect Wounded Combat Troops From IRS Overreach

U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) issued the following statement after the Senate Finance Committee approved legislation yesterday he introduced with Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) to provide tax fairness for wounded members of the armed services.

The Wounded Warrior Tax Equity Act, which requires the IRS to treat hospitalized combat troops the same as hospitalized civilians for tax collection purposes, passed the committee unanimously.

"The men and women of our armed forces make great sacrifices every day in service to our country, and they deserve to be treated fairly by the federal government," Sen. Cornyn said. "I'm happy to work with Sen. Casey to help those who put their lives on the line every day for our freedoms."

The Wounded Warrior Tax Equity Act is supported by the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, the Reserve Officers Association, the Fleet Reserve Association and the Association of the United States Army.
