Letter to Barack Obama, President of the United States - Border Security

Dear President Obama,

With the beginning of the 114th Congress, we have an opportunity to implement new and meaningful solutions to our nation's challenges. Whether it is working to extricate ourselves from the worst recession since the Great Depression, or dealing with the ongoing crisis on our southern border, we have an obligation to work on behalf of the American people to address this myriad of challenges.

We understand you intend to travel to Arizona later this week to highlight the housing market "recovery" in Phoenix. While hardworking Arizonans work to strengthen the housing market and our nation's economy, they also continue to struggle with the lack of action on the humanitarian and security crisis along our southern border.

As you know, last year, nearly 70,000 unaccompanied alien minors entered the U.S., with thousands more anticipated to be arriving in this coming year. These minors are being transported over 1,000 miles by human traffickers, drug cartels, and other criminal organizations, and run the risk of being kidnapped, raped, killed, or otherwise harmed during the journey.

Furthermore, the lawlessness and violence on our southern border continues to threaten order and peaceful commerce in the region. With such threats being posed to our citizens with such regularity, it is imperative that we focus on securing our border by ensuring that our Border Patrol agents have the resources they need. Of course, without a secure border, there is little potential for improving our immigration system.

We believe that a personal visit to the border is essential to a clearer understanding of the increasingly dire situation that is faced each and every day by Border Patrol agents and local law enforcement officials who serve in Border States.

Such a crisis demands action. We urge you to demonstrate that border security is indeed a priority and finally visit the southern border.
