Governor Maggie Hassan today issued the following statement after the Senate voted to table Senate Bill 233, relative to state revenue and expenditures for fiscal year 2015:
"As we continue to take prudent, strategic action to maintain fiscal responsibility and ensure a balanced budget for Fiscal Year 2015, this legislation that makes reductions to legislative spending and addresses a shortfall to fund state police detectives is an important part of those plans to keep us in a position to finish Fiscal Year 2015 in the black.
"While we work closely with state agencies to responsibly address our budgets challenges, it is disappointing that Senate Republicans oppose this effort to ensure a balanced budget and fund state police detectives, especially since they have yet to put forward any alternative proposals. Although the Senate is not willing to pass a bill that includes reductions to legislative spending, I will continue to remain open to hearing alternatives for reductions in order to maintain fiscal responsibility and ensure a balanced budget for Fiscal Year 2015."
