U.S. Representative Sean Duffy (WI-07) holds true to his promise to his constituents and again introduces legislation to limit the number of consecutive terms an elected official can serve in a current position:
Rep. Duffy offered, "It is a privilege to represent the people of Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District in Congress, but it should not be a career. Career politicians tend to get more comfortable with Washington elite and lose touch with the people and reasons that sent them to Washington in the first place.
"I replaced a 40 year incumbent Congressman. When I was elected to this office, I promised my constituents that I would support legislation establishing term limits. I stand by that promise and have re-introduced this important legislation."
H.J. Res. 21 forbids Members of Congress, in both the House and the Senate, from serving more than 12 consecutive years in their current position. All currently serving Members of Congress would be given a "clean slate" from the day it is signed into law and allowed to serve 12 additional years in their current position.
Rep. Duffy added, "Sending career politicians back to their districts will return much needed accountability and transparency to Congress, and most importantly to the people we represent."
