Location: Stockton, CA

Rep. Jerry McNerney (CA-09) today announced that the San Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD) had won a competitive $4.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to purchase five Proterra battery-electric buses and a charging station.

"Congratulations to San Joaquin RTD on winning this very competitive grant," said Rep. McNerney. "RTD is leading the way on moving towards a zero emissions public transit fleet, and I was proud to support their grant application with a letter to the Federal Transit Administration. RTD's efforts are a model for other cities to follow in providing efficient transportation services that keep our air clean and save money in the long run."

RTD plans to add the zero-emission buses and charging station to expand service and increase capacity at the Stockton Downtown Transit Center, which is the transfer point for nearly all of the RTD's routes.
