Congresswoman Matsui Announces More than $173 Million in Current and Future Funding for Sacramento Region Flood Protection Projects

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) announced that over $78 million was proposed for Sacramento region flood protection projects in President Obama's Fiscal Year 2016 budget request, while the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers allocated $95.3 million in Fiscal Year 2015 Work Plan to local projects. The funding includes $5 million for the Natomas Levee Improvement Project, the first funding allocated to the project since last year's Congressional authorization.

"As an unwavering advocate for Sacramento's flood protection, I am thrilled the Administration has formally allocated $95.3 million for Sacramento's flood protection needs and proposed $78 million for the next fiscal year. Importantly, this includes a combined total of $5 million to complete the design and engineering work that is needed to take the Natomas Levee Improvement Program to construction. It is the first funding milestone since Congress authorized the project and it is clear evidence that the improvements to Natomas' levees are moving full steam ahead. This funding also keeps the Folsom Dam Joint Federal Project on track, which is key to the entire region's flood protection," said Congresswoman Matsui.
