Pocan Slams Republican Led State Legislature for Attack on Wisconsin Unions

Statement

U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI) today strongly criticized the decision by Wisconsin's Republican state legislative leaders to call lawmakers into an extraordinary session to fast track so-called right-to-work legislation.

"I am very disappointed to hear Republicans are pursuing right-to-work in Wisconsin -- continuing to lead our state in the wrong direction. If Republicans think the public will support this legislation they would not be trying to rush this across the finish line. But the cowardly decision by Republican leaders to ram this harmful legislation through without time for public comment only shows their complete disregard for the legislative process and the voices of Wisconsinites. Instead of moving Wisconsin "FORWARD', misguided Republicans are leading the state backwards.

"As we have seen in other states, right-to-work reduces wages and salaries for workers, cuts benefits such as health insurance and a pension, and eliminates workplace protections. And today, Wisconsin Republicans are doubling down on their failed economic experiment. Wisconsin has lagged behind our Midwest neighbors in job creation and economic growth, and the paychecks of hard working Wisconsinite's are growing at the slowest rate in the region since Governor Scott Walker and Republicans took control of the state. When will enough be enough?"
