Congressional Wine Caucus Co-Chair Reacts to Today's Supreme Court Decision in favor of Direct Shipping of Wine

WASHINGTONRep. Mike Thompson (D-Napa Valley-CA) issued the following statement in reaction to today's Supreme Court decision overturning discriminatory wine shipping laws. As Co-Chair of the Congressional Wine Caucus, Thompson joined 20 Senators and Representatives in sending an amicus brief to the Court last year arguing in favor of direct shipping.
"This has always been an issue of fair commerce and consumer rights. Today's court ruling is an historic milestone in tearing down the antiquated wall that has long separated hundreds of small and midsize wineries from American consumers.
"While small wineries and American consumers earned a monumental victory today, the direct shipping fight is far from over. Opponents of today's decision will likely attempt to circumvent the will of the Court through the legislative process. I will continue to remain vigilant in advocating for the rights of consumers to have direct access to the wine purchases of their choice."
Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Napa Valley) serves on the House Ways and Means Committee and is co-chair of the Congressional Wine Caucus, a bicameral organization made up of over 210 Democrats and Republicans.
