Pete Sessions Statement on the DHS Funding Bill

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, today released the following statement regarding the Department of Homeland Security bill that did not address the President's unlawful executive amnesty plan:

"In January the House passed a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security and block executive amnesty. The Senate has had nearly two months to debate this issue, yet Senate Democrats repeatedly obstructed the process and refused to work with the House to resolve our differences. At this point, it is my belief that Congress should resolve the differences between the House and the Senate through a conference before moving forward. Without the ability to go to conference in order to address the President's executive amnesty, I could not support the bill.

"While I support providing critical funding for agencies that protect our national security, I cannot support this bill because it does not address the President's unwise, unlawful, and unconstitutional executive amnesty plan. The President himself has admitted 22 times that he does not have the authority to unilaterally grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants in our country, yet he and Senate Democrats have continued to support this blatant, unconstitutional abuse of power. I remain deeply disappointed that the President and Senate Democrats have chosen political posturing over the security of our nation."
