Pete Sessions Statement on the December Jobs Report

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX-32), Chairman of the House Rules Committee and a Member of House Republican Leadership, today released the following statement regarding the December unemployment report:

"While I am always pleased to learn that some Americans have been able to find work, the President's policies continue to keep our economy from achieving the robust growth that Americans need and deserve. In the past year the President has saddled American businesses with $181.5 billion in new regulatory costs. These increased costs on businesses translate into more money being taken out of hard working Americans' pockets. Average hourly earnings have fallen .2% and wages grew by a mere 1.7% this month- the smallest gain since October 2012.

"House Republicans understand what it takes to jumpstart our economy. Just this week the House passed two bipartisan jobs bills to create more opportunities for our nation's veterans to find employment and to restore the 40-hour work week. This afternoon we will also vote on the long awaited Keystone Pipeline which will create thousands of American jobs and inject billions of dollars into our economy. As we move forward in the 114th Congress, I remain committed to putting forth common sense conservative solutions to get government out of the way, unleash our economy, and create more opportunities for all Americans."
