Lorie Marling of Columbus, Ohio received a notice from the IRS in 1998 that she owed $270 Billion to the U.S. Government; payable in three easy installments of $90 billion. After bringing it to the IRS' attention it was determined that mistakes were made.

One of the best parts about my job is that I am able to help people who are having problems dealing with the federal government. As many of you have discovered it can be frustrating dealing with a federal agency. Many of the letters I receive are about Social Security checks. If you or one of your loved ones is having a difficult time getting a problem resolved, I want to help.

While I cannot make decisions for government agencies, my office can act as a liaison between you and a federal agency. We can direct you to the appropriate federal agency, see that your situation gets prompt and fair consideration, check on the status of your claim or appeal and provide you with public information or telephone numbers.

Before I can contact the federal agency you are dealing with though, I need a signed letter or privacy release form from you. To protect citizens the Federal Privacy Act of 1974 mandates that I have written permission before an inquiry can be made.

I am determined to help you in anyway I can. If you have a problem with a federal agency, please contact one of my district offices in St. Joseph or Liberty. They will be happy to assist you in getting the process started.
