Cramer Votes to Improve Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Programs at Department of Veterans Affairs

Legislation supported by Congressman Kevin Cramer to improve mental health and suicide prevention programs at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) passed the U.S. House of Representatives today. The Clay Hunt SAV Act requires a third party to conduct annual evaluations of these programs within the VA, establishes a pilot program to repay student loans of psychiatrists who commit to working at the VA, improves collaboration with non-profit mental health organizations, and extends eligibility for VA health care services for certain combat veterans.

"We must continue to address the entrenched bureaucracy at the VA which has led to unacceptable failures. Our military veterans deserve the very best mental health care their country can provide them," said Cramer.

Congressman Cramer maintains a Veterans Advisory Board, a group of North Dakota veterans organization leaders who provide guidance on important issues for retired service members.
