Statement of Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin on Today's Pentagon Recommendations to BRAC

"The Pentagon's recommendation to the Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC) to expand operations at Truax Field demonstrates that base's strategic importance to our homeland and national security and is good news for the 2nd Congressional District. Consolidating and centralizing military operations are efficiency and cost-saving measures that I very much support. That said, this expansion is accompanied by the closure of several smaller units in south central Wisconsin. Losing those jobs, both military and civilian, is a loss to our community.

Statewide, the BRAC news is mixed, with more significant realignment proposed for Fort McCoy and General Mitchell Field. I will continue to work with the Governor and the WI Congressional Delegation, on a bi-partisan basis, to assure that Wisconsin is treated fairly as the BRAC process continues."
