Larsen Opposes Fiscally-Irresponsible Budget
April 28, 2005

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) will vote against the Republican budget conference report when the House of Representatives votes on the legislation this evening. Larsen released the following statement on his vote:

"I voted against the Republican budget when it came before the House the first time. I'm going to vote against this final version today because the Republicans failed to fix the glaring problems in this budget.

"Rather than bring fiscal responsibility back to the federal government, this Republican budget makes deficits bigger.

"The cuts it does make will hurt those who need help the most. It makes drastic cuts to Medicaid and Community Development Block Grant funding that helps provide affordable housing and services for victims of domestic violence in our communities.

"I will keep working in Congress to bring back fiscal sanity. It is morally and fiscally irresponsible to continue passing budgets that increase deficits and leave our children's children to pay the tab."

Larsen opposed the House version of the budget on March 17, 2005. The Senate must now take action on the conference report.
