Murray Statement on President Obama's FY16 Budget Proposal for Hanford Cleanup

Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committees, released the following statement on President Obama's Fiscal Year 2016 Budget Proposal, which includes $2.328 billion for Hanford cleanup within a $5.8 billion national budget for Environmental Management priorities across the country.

"Cleaning up the Hanford site is one of our state's top environmental priorities, and to do the job right, the federal government must live up to its promise and provide adequate funding for cleanup every year," said Senator Murray. "The President's budget proposal for Hanford cleanup in Fiscal Year 2016 includes good and bad news for the site. I applaud the President's proposal to increase funding for the Office of River Protection by $202 million, but I am very disappointed that he has again proposed nearly $100 million in cuts for Richland Operations. Last year, I successfully fought to restore Hanford cleanup funding after the Obama Administration proposed similar cuts, and I'm hopeful that the Republican majority in Congress will work with me to get this done this year too."
