Fleming Reacts to State of the Union Speech

Statement

Congressman John Fleming, M.D., issued the following statement in response to President Obama's State of the Union speech:

"For six years this president has pushed failed and costly policies that seem aimed at pitting various sectors of our society against one another. Tonight's speech is no different; he still wants the kind of wealth transfer that punishes success and diminishes job creation. The millions who are unemployed or underemployed are looking for good-paying, full-time jobs, not government handouts, and it doesn't help them to raise taxes on job creators. If Washington wants to encourage a strong economy, we can start by repealing Obamacare, cutting taxes, and slashing unnecessary regulations, as the House voted to do last week with a bipartisan majority. The president ought to commit to signing that bill into law, instead of spending all his time lately issuing veto threats. His administration also needs to stop looking for new ways to cut domestic energy production. It's in the best interest of our national security and our economy to reduce foreign oil dependence."
