U.S. Congressman Marlin Stutzman issued this statement following the passage of H.R. 185, the Regulatory Accountability Act of 2015, sponsored by Chairman Bob Goodlatte. The bill passed 250-175.
"Today, I supported the Regulatory Accountability Act because federal regulations continue to be a stranglehold on the American economy. Right now, the cost of federal regulations, are estimated at a staggering $1.86 trillion. If we are going to unleash both job creators and wage earners, we must do what we can to free ourselves of the burdensome regulations imposed by unelected Washington bureaucrats.
"The legislation passed today will strengthen our economy by requiring federal agencies to provide alternatives to new regulations and identify the negative impact that new rules will have on jobs and wages. This Act is a step towards bringing accountability and transparency to federal agencies that are in desperate need of both. I am hopeful we can pass other like minded bills in continued pursuit of regulatory reform this Congress."
