Stutzman Supports Legislation to Combat Human Trafficking

U.S. Congressman Marlin Stutzman issued this statement following his support for a package of bills to combat human trafficking.

"Hundreds of thousands of young Americans are at risk of becoming victims of sex trafficking, which has become one of the fastest growing organized crime businesses around the world. According to the Department of Justice the average age of each victim falls between the ages of 12-14, and perpetrators are now using advanced techniques through the internet to target potential victims. Putting an end to human trafficking is a goal that should unite both Republicans and Democrats and today the House took an important step to achieving that goal.

"I proudly supported legislation that will strengthen and streamline resources for law enforcement officials, provide incentives to states to treat victims, criminalize those who advertise the exploitation of children, and review ways in which federal and state officials can work together to further prevent human trafficking.

"I am hopeful these bills will move quickly through the Senate and over to the Whitehouse so President Obama can sign them into law."
