The Governor's Commission on Innovation, Efficiency, and Transparency today presented its final report, which outlines a series of recommendations to boost innovation, improve efficiency, and increase transparency in the operating management of state government.
The recommendations include: improving operating performance through the creation of an Office of Operating Performance and the adoption of performance standards and metrics; modernizing the state's approach to information technology; reorganizing in certain areas of state government to enhance efficiency; and incentivizing innovation and efficiency within state agencies.
"In order to protect taxpayer dollars and improve state services, we must always strive for an innovative and efficient state government," Governor Hassan said. "This report highlights how we can strengthen our institutional commitment to these goals, and I thank Commission Chairman Eric Herr and all of the commission's members for their hard work and service to our state. I look forward to working with legislators from both parties, with our state agencies and with our citizens to determine the best way forward to implement these recommendations so that we can improve the operating performance of state government."
As part of her efforts to innovate, to save taxpayer dollars and to improve state services, Governor Hassan created in May 2013 the Governor's Commission on State Government Innovation, Efficiency and Transparency.
The commission studied the state's record on innovation, efficiency, and transparency, held a series of public discussions facilitated by New Hampshire Listens, and worked with efficiency and performance experts and state agencies in developing its final report. New Hampshire Listens is a group that works with local and statewide partners to bring people together for public conversations aimed at engaging communities and solving public problems.
"Our commission's report outlines specific steps to modernize and reposition state government for the 21st century that can strengthen the state's institutional commitment to that end, and I thank Governor Hassan for her commitment to improving the state's operating performance," said Eric Herr, chairman of the commission.
