Labrador Statement on Vote to Defund Obama Executive Actions on Immigration

Rep. Raúl Labrador, R-Idaho, issued the following statement regarding Wednesday's passage of H.R. 240, which provides $37.7 billion to fund the Department of Homeland Security in fiscal year 2015:

"The House defended its constitutional authority to make the law of the land in today's vote to oppose President Obama's unconstitutional executive actions on immigration. I am hopeful the Senate will do its job and reassert the duty of Congress to make immigration law. The president has provoked this constitutional crisis. It's up to us in Congress to follow our oaths to protect the Constitution."

H.R. 240 bars the use of any funds -- whether appropriated or collected by user fees -- to consider new, renewal or previously denied applications under DACA, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.

The spending bill completely defunds the president's November executive actions deferring any deportation action for an estimated four million unlawful alien parents. The measure also defunds the Obama Administration's so-called "prosecutorial discretion" memos that have gutted immigration enforcement within the U.S.

The bill boosts border protection, establishing the largest force levels in history, with 24-hour surveillance of air, land and sea approaches to the border. It also strengthens internal enforcement and investigations.
