Iowa Congressman David Young Visiting the Southern Border States on a Fact Finding Mission

Iowa Congressman David Young released the following statement regarding an official trip to America's southern border states; led by U.S. House Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul (TX-10). As a member of the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, Congressman Young has direct oversight of Congressional spending levels related to border security and all Department of Homeland Security (DHS) functions.

"There has been a lot of discussion about how to move forward fixing our broken immigration system. I recognize that this is a human issue that impacts real people, but we must address our nation's border security first," said Congressman Young.

Congressman Young and his colleagues will be met on the southwest border with a full itinerary. There will be visits to San Diego, CA, Tucson and Sierra Vista, AZ, and a final stop in McAllen, TX. With multiple border visits in each of these locations -- from a variety of enforcement perspectives -- air, land and sea, the delegation will see border security first-hand. Meetings with local ranchers and extensive briefings from federal officials have also been set-up to give further context to this critical challenge.

In conclusion Young said, "This trip will provide me extensive insight into the operational capabilities of our border patrol agents and the viability of existing technologies to secure the border. Iowans sent me to Washington to make informed decisions and bring accountability to how their taxpayer dollars are spent. As a member of the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, I have direct oversight of the agency, which is a responsibility I take very seriously. I look forward to getting to work."
